The Lumberjack volleyball team made gains Wednesday night but fell short against undefeated Mon-Dak Conference leader Bismarck State College falling 3-1.
Set one saw the Jacks get off to a quick start with a 3-0 lead. DCB continued to play well and eventually would double up the Mystics at 12-6. BSC would try to close the gap but would only be able to get within four points of the Jacks. DCB went on to win the set 25-21. It was only the third set loss for the Mystics this season.
The Mystics turned the tables on the Lumberjacks in set two with a 12-3 run to start the set. DCB was never able to get any momentum to swing their way and BSC would win set two 25-9.
Bismarck State started set three with a 5-0 run. DCB was able to respond with a 6-1 run over their own to tie the game at 6-6. After that the teams traded points for multiple volleys with neither team able to take control of the set. The Mystics would use a late run to take control and win the set 25-16.
In set four BSC was able to start quick again with a 5-1 run. The Jacks were able to get the deficit back to within two at 7-5. After that, however, it was all Mystics as they would use a 12-0 run to build a 19-5 lead. DCB would try to overcome the deficit, but it was too big of a hole they found themselves in as BSC went on to win the set and the match 25-10.
With the loss the Jacks fall to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the Mon-Dak. Next up DCB is back home next Tuesday for another Mon-Dak Conference game against NDSCS game time is set for 7:00p.m.
