Jacks Drop Tight Game with Wildcats

The Lumberjack women's basketball team played a tight game with the NDSCS Wildcats Thursday night that was not decided until the final two minutes. In the end the Wildcats would pick the 71-62 win.

The first quarter was tightly contested the Lumberjacks forced the Wildcats into 8 turnovers in the first quarter. NDSCS overcame that by shooting 70% from the field and led17-14 after one quarter. Hanna Plumbtree led the Jacks with 6 points in the quarter. The Wildcats pushed their lead to nine at 25-16 in the first two minutes of the quarter. Over the next three minutes the Lumberjacks responded with a 12-0 run to take a 28-25 lead. With three minutes to go in the first half the teams were tied at 30-30. NDSCS finished the half on a 12-7 run to take a 42-37 lead into halftime.

Coming out of the locker room both teams struggled offensively, scoring a combined 12 points in the first 7:30 of the quarter. Both offenses found some momentum in the last two minutes of the half and as the teams prepared for the fourth quarter NDSCS led 57-50. The Wildcats pushed the lead to 10 points for the first time in the game early in the fourth quarter. The Jacks didn't go away though cutting the Wildcat lead to just three points at 65-62 with 2 minutes left in regulation. That's as close as the Jacks would get though as NDSCS finished the game on a 6-0 run to win 71-62.

Plumbtree was co-high scorer and led four Lumberjacks in double figures with 18 points. She was one rebound and one block away with 9 each. Kiara Comeaux had another nice game, finishing with 14 points. Rozalind Strong added 13 points, and Amari Butler dropped in 12. Michelle Arens led the Wildcats with 18 points.

With the loss DCB falls to 11-12 overall and 5-9 inside the Mon-Dak. The Lumberjacks are back on the road Sunday to take on Lake Region State College with game time set for 1:00p.m.
