Lumberjacks Fall to Bucs

 The Lumberjack Women's Basketball team attempted a fourth quarter rally Thursday night against Dawson Community College. However, foul trouble was too much to overcome, and the Lumberjacks fell 95-82.

The Jacks shot just 26% from the field in the first quarter compared to the Bucs 47%. As a result, DCB found themselves down 21-13 after the first ten minutes in the second quarter Rozalind Strong got the Lumberjack offense rolling with a 12-point quarter. The Jacks and the Bucs played even in the second quarter, with Dawson taking a 41-33 lead into the locker room.

Both offenses were clicking in the third quarter with DCC shooting 50% from the field and DCB shooting 58% from the field. Amari Butler led the Jacks offensive attack in the third quarter with 12 points. DCB was able to cut the Bucs lead to just five points at 67-62 as the teams went to their benches to prepare for the fourth quarter. It would be in the fourth quarter that foul trouble would become an issue. The Jacks had already lost Hanna Plumbtree who fouled out in the third quarter. BrandeeRhae Mays and Butler joined her on the bench leaving the Jacks with just three players on the floor. Despite their best efforts DCB would be outscored in the quarter 28-20 and drop the game by a final score of 95-82.

Butler led three Lumberjacks in double-figures and was the games co high scorer with 24 points. Strong and Kiara Comeaux each finished with 20 points, Comeaux had 10 in the fourth quarter. McKenzi Peterson led the Bucs with 24 points.

With the lose DCB falls to 10-11 overall and 4-8 inside the Mon-Dak Next up the Lumberjacks continue their stretch of road games taking on Region foe United Tribes. The game time is set for 5:30p.m. Monday. The Thunderbirds are currently a game ahead of the Jacks in the standings which is crucial for postseason seeding.
