Jacks Outrun Bucs

Jacks Outrun Bucs

A balanced offensive attack with five Lumberjacks scoring in double-figures combined with a great defensive effort that would see DCB force 28 DCC turnovers would lead to the Lumberjack women's basketball team picking up a 102-79 victory Sunday afternoon.

Both offenses struggled to get going early in the first quarter. With the score tied 12-12 the Lumberjacks turned up the intensity on the defensive end and turned defense into offense with a 10-2 run to give them a 22-14 lead. A late three pointer by the Bucs would bring them back within five at 22-17 at the end of the first quarter. In the first quarter all seven Jacks would score at least one basket.

The Bucs would hit a three-pointer to start the quarter to cut the Jacks lead to just two points. That's as close as DCC would get for the remainder of the game. A 15-3 run by the Jacks would break the game open in the second quarter. Hanna Plumbtree led the offensive attack in the quarter with 10 points and pulled down six rebounds in the quarter. At halftime DCB led 53-40.

The second half was more of the same from the Jacks in the second half seeing scoring coming from multiple players and the ability to share the ball with seven assists in the third quarter alone. Kiara Comeaux led the Jacks offense in the quarter with 10 points. At the end of the third quarter DCB led 78-55.

In the fourth quarter DCB dished 7 more assists and were able to finish off the Bucs by a score of 103-79. It is the third time this season the Jacks went over the century mark. As a team DCB had 29 assists in the contest on 41 made shots.

Plumbtree led all scorers with 26 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double, she also had four blocks. She was joined in double-figures by Jewels Lone Fight who had a career high 20 points. Rozalind Strong finished with 19 points and one assist shy of a double-double with 9. Comeaux finished with 15 points and 11 assists for a double-double. Amari Butler rounded out the double figure scorers with 11 points. McKenzi Peterson and Eirini Chatzinkoli each had 15 points to lead the Bucs.

With the win DCB moves to 7-4 overall and 3-3 inside the Mon-Dak. The Jacks return to action tomorrow against the top team in the conference, unbeaten Williston State College. Game time is set for 5:30p.m.
