Jacks Down BlueHawks in Overtime

It would require an overtime period, but the Lumberjack women's basketball team would pick up a non-conference win against the Dickinson State JV 74-68.

The typically fast paced Lumberjacks were slowed down by the BlueHawks early in the contest. With DSU in control of the pace they were able to take the lead in the opening 10 minutes. However, no lead in this game would ever be larger than eight points. Amari Butler would score 8 of her game high 25 points to keep DCB within one at the end of the first quarter. After struggling As a team from beyond the arc in the first quarter the Jacks would knock down a pair of threes in the second quarter to allow them to get the game to tied as the teams went into halftime.

Coming out of halftime both teams struggled to score as they combined to shoot 27% from the field in the quarter. Nonetheless the teams remained tied as the third quarter buzzer sounded. Just like the rest of the game momentum swung back and forth. Rozalind Strong would lead the offensive attack with 8 points. With the Jacks leading 63-59 with under a minute to go Dickinson would score cutting the lead to two with 25 seconds remaining. The BlueHawks fouled sending DCB to the free throw line. DCB would go 1 of 2 at the line keeping DSU withing one possession.  Out of a BlueHawk timeout they would knock down a three to tie the game at 64-64. The Jacks had a good look roll of the rim giving DSU a shot to win it with 6.9 seconds left in regulation. On the ensuing offensive passion Hanna Plumbtree would pick up here fourth block of the night denying the BlueHawks a chance at the win. With the clock having 3.2 seconds remaining DCB would have one more opportunity to win in regulation. Strong would have a good look with and elbow jumper, but it wouldn't fall, sending the teams to overtime.

The Jacks would get the lead at the start of overtime thanks to the free throw line as Strong would go 5-7 at the line to put DCB out front. A three pointer from Butler would put the game away with the Jacks coming out on top 74-68. Butler led four Jacks in double figures with 25 points, Strong joined her in double figures with 21 points including 14 from the free throw line. Plumbtree scored 13 and pulled in 11 rebounds, and Karrington Eugene added 10 points. Makenna Hauge led the BlueHawks with 18 points off the bench.

With the win DCB moves to 5-3 overall. The Jacks return to Mon-Dak play Sunday at NDSCS tip-off is scheduled for 1:00p.m.
