Ladyjacks defeat Williston State

The DCB Ladyjack basketball game won their 2nd game in a row on Thursday, February 20th with a big 71-59 victory over Williston State.  That win, coupled with a loss by United Tribes, put the Ladyjacks into a tie with the Thunderbirds for the right to host the Region XIII semifinal playoff game.  DCB holds the tiebreaker edge and everything now comes down to what happens in each teams' finale on Sunday.

DCB played a complete game, outscoring WSC in every quarter to slowly pull away in the game.  The Ladyjacks got out to a 16-12 lead after 1 period and extended the lead to 8, 39-31, at halftime.  Williston went on a short run in the 4th quarter to briefly cut DCB's lead to 2 points, but the Ladyjacks tightened down on defense, outscoring WSC 12-2 to end the game.  Sydnie Nelson scored a game high 20 points while also pulling down 7 rebounds and accounting for a game high 5 assists.  Trinity Goggles continued her strong play as well with 17 points and 8 rebounds.  Jayla Howard and Lauren Gangl each had solid nights as well with both of them scoring 10 points.

From Coach Johnson; "It was a good effort tonight and we picked up a much needed win.  We gave ourselves a chance after the big win on Sunday, setting up a must win game tonight to have any chance of hosting. Our ladies really came through.  I thought a couple of keys to the game were our excellent free throw shooting and our ability to take care of the basketball.  Overall, it was a great way to end the regular home season for our players, especially our sophomores."

As stated earlier, DCB and UTTC are now tied for the right to host the Region XIII semifinal game on Wednesday, February 26th.  Both teams play Sunday, DCB will host with either a win or a UTTC loss.  The Ladyjacks travel to North Dakota Science while United Tribes host Miles CC.  Regardless, the Thunderbirds and Ladyjacks will play next Wednesday night for the right to travel to Michigan the following weekend.
