Ladyjacks End Road Trip on a High Note

The Ladyjack Softball team ended their road trip on a high note with a 14-6 win over Bismarck State College. In the other five games on the road trip DCB was swept by Dawson Community College and Williston State College. The Ladyjacks also dropped the first game of their doubleheader to BSC.

Dawson Series

The Ladyjacks got on the board first in game one when Brennah McLaughlin doubled and drove in two runs in the top of the first. The Bucs would tie the game in the bottom of the first and take the lead in bottom of the second with two more runs. DCC would tack on two more runs in the third and fifth innings to win the game by a final score of 8-2. Lilianna Valdivia doubled in the contest and struck out two from the circle. On the base paths Lexie Nelson recorded a stolen base.

In game two DCB jumped out to a 2-0 lead again off the bat of Brennah McLaughlin with her third home run of the season also driving in Lexie Nelson. However, the Ladyjacks would only manage one more hit from Hannah Funk. The Bucs won by a final score of 21-2. Brooklynn Hartman had a strikeout in five innings of work.

Williston Series

In game one the Tetons got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first. WSC pushed their lead to 2-0 with another run in the bottom of the third. The Ladyjacks got on the board and tied the game in the top of the fourth at 2-2. The Tetons took 4-2 lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. DCB answered with three runs in the top of the fifth to take a 5-4 lead. WSC responded with four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead for good at 8-5. Lexie Nelson hit her third homerun of the season and drove in two runs. Brennah McLaughlin doubled and drove in two more runs. Lilianna Valdivia also doubled. Valdivia also had three strikeouts from the mound.

Errors loomed large for the Ladyjacks in game two as the Tetons scored one run in the first, second, and third innings with two more coming in the fifth. Only one of those runs was earned by the Tetons as DCB committed six errors in the contest. The Ladyjacks would attempt a late rally as Lexie Nelson would triple and drive in two runs in the bottom of the seventh but it would not be enough as the Tetons would take the game by a final score of 5-2. Kindal DeGraeve also had a triple in the contest. Brooklynn Hartman had one strikeout in the circle.

 BSC Series

In game the Ladyjack offense struggled to find momentum picking just two hits and falling by a final score of 9-1. Madison Elliot and Hannah Funk were credited with the hits for DCB. Funk had the lone RBI, and Elliot had a stolen base.

DCB flipped the script in game two with 11 hits. The Ladyjacks used a four run first inning to take an early lead. The Mystics responded with two runs in the bottom of the first to make the score 4-2. It would be a five run second inning that would give DCB full control of the game with a 9-2 lead. From their the Ladyjacks would use solid pitching, and excellent fielding to take a 14-6 win. Brennah McLaughlin and Lilianna Valdivia each had a double and three RBI's, McLaughlin now has 21 RBIs on the season. Trinity Tanner had a double and two RBIs, Madison Elliot was the fourth Ladyjack with a double in the contest, she also had an RBI. Hannah Funk, Destiny Flores, Elliot, and Tanner all had one stolen base. Funk picked up the win in the circle. Valdivia had one strike out in relief.

DCB record moves to 2-16 overall and in the Mon-Dak. The Ladyjacks wrap up the regular season this weekend with three conference doubleheaders including two home games. Friday DCB will host Miles Community College first pitch scheduled for noon and game two will follow. Saturday the Ladyjacks play at Lake Region State College first game will start at 1:00p.m. with game two to follow. DCB will close out the regular season at home Sunday against the Wildcats of NDSCS first pitch for game one set or 1:00p.m.
