Lumberjacks Fall in Region Championship

Lumberjacks Fall in Region Championship

After defeating Dakota County Technical College in the Region 13 Semi Finals, the Lumberjacks men's basketball team saw their season come to an end in the championship game at the hands of United Tribes Technical College 84-72.

In the early going the teams trade the lead and baskets as they jockeyed for control and momentum. At the first media timeout the Thunderbirds held a 12-8 lead. A quick 5-0 run by the Jacks out of the media timeout would give them the lead back at 13-12. The teams would then pick up the pace a little bit, but continue to trade baskets with neither team seeming to get the momentum to swing their way. Eventually it would be UTTC seeming to get momentum on their side stretching the lead to seven at 27-20, but at the second media timeout DCB had it back down to two possessions at 27-22. The Thunderbirds would stretch their lead to nine at 35-26, but the Lumberjacks had an answer finishing the half on a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to just three at halftime with the score reading 35-32 UTTC.

UTTC was able to continue to hold their narrow lead after coming out of halftime. At the first media timeout of the second half the Thunderbirds held a 46-42 lead.  The Jacks would eventually work their way back to tie the game at 54-54 with 8:00 remaining. The Jacks would not ever take the lead, they would keep it close but were unable to get a momentum shifting basket or stop in the end the Thunderbirds would pick up the win 84-72.

Brendan Redhead led three Lumberjacks in double-figures with 22 points. Max Groom finished with 15, and Phil Gibaut added 10. Cayden Redfield led the Thunderbirds and all scorers with 24 points. DCB finishes their season with a 17-15 record.
