Groom Scores 1,00th Point in Loss to Tetons

On a layup with 13:29 remaining in the second half Max Groom would surpass 1,000 carer points, joining teammate Brendan Redhead as the only known men's basketball players from Dakota College to surpass 1,000 career points. Even with the historic milestone the Lumberjacks would come up short against the Williston State Tetons 84-79.

The game started out very tightly contested DCB eventually was able to slowly build a twelve-point lead at 27-15 with 7:23 remaining. Danny Lazic was a big piece of that, scoring 11 points in the half and knocking down three 3-pointers. The final 7 minutes of the half belonged to the Tetons as the finished the half on a 25-6 run to take a 40-33 lead into the locker room.

The Jacks attempted to work their way closer to the Tetons for much of the second half. Redhead would lead the charge in the second half scoring 28 points in the half to help give the Lumberjacks a shot. It would be a floater by Groom that would tie the game at 73 with 3:29 remaining. On the next Teton possession, they would knock down a three to give them the lead for good eventually going on to win 84-79.

Redhead led three Lumberjacks and all scorers with 31 points, Groom added 20 points, and Lazic finished with 15. Tyler Best led the Tetons with 19 points.

DCB finishes the regular season 16-14 and 8-13 inside Mon-Dak play. The Lumberjacks kick off the postseason Saturday in Bismarck against Dakota County Technical College. Gametime is set for 4:00p.m. The winner of that game will advance to the Region 13 Championship game Sunday also in Bismarck taking on the winner of United Tribes and Gogebic at 2:00p.m.
