Shorthanded Lumberjacks Fall to Wildcats

Down two starters and another player in the rotation all due to illness the Lumberjack men's basketball team was unable to get past the Wildcats of North Dakota State College of Science Thursday night. The Wildcats who received votes in the latest poll put out by the NJCAA defeated DCB 95-60.

After being held scoreless for the first six and a half minutes the Jacks would respond scoring eight straight points in less than two minutes to bring themselves within one at 9-8. However, for the rest of the half would be all Wildcats, as they would finish the final 12 minutes of the half on a 42-12 run. DCB shot just 27% in the first half compared to the 54% shot by the Wildcats. Max Groom had 11 points in the first half to pace the Jacks.

Despite the large deficit the Lumberjacks battled in the second half. DCB was able to cut the gap to as little as 24 in the second half, but the shorthanded Jacks were unable to overcome the depth of the Wildcats falling 95-60.

Groom was the lone Lumberjack in double figures with a game high 32 points. Peyton Newbern led the Wildcats with 18 points.

With the loss DCB falls to 14-9 overall and 6-8 in the Monn-Dak. Next up DCB hits the road for a game against Lake Region State College Sunday. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00p.m.
