Shooting Woes Bite Jacks in Montana

Back-to-back rough shooting performances would lead to a pair of loss for the DCB Lumberjack Basketball team falling to Miles Community College by a score of 72-65 and to Dawson Community College 96-81.

72-65 Loss

Both offenses struggled to get going in the first half as nearly six minutes into the game DCB held a 7-2 lead. Over the next four minutes the Pioneers would go on a 12-6 run to give them the lead at 14-13. Over the next few minutes, the teams would trade the lead back and forth. The Pioneers finished the final six minutes on a 10-9 run to take a 33-28 lead into the locker room. The Jacks shot just 33% from the field in the first half and 27% from beyond the arc. The story remained the same for DCB as again they shot 33% from the field. The Jacks would come within a possession or two multiple times in the half but would never retake the lead. Miles also won the battle on the offensive glass with 13 oboards compared to the Jacks four. In the end MCC would pick up the win 72-65.

The Jacks were led in scoring by Max Groom with 15 points off the bench. Loukas Triantis dropped in 13 and Jacob Smith added 12. Blessing Adesipe led the Pioneers and all scores with 39 points the most the Jacks have given up to a single player all season.

96-81 Loss

The Jacks jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the first three minutes of the game. A 9-0 run by the Bucs would give them a 12-8 lead and force a DCB timeout. Out of the timeout DCC run would become 14-5. For the second consecutive day the Jacks offense would struggle shooting from the floor as they shot just 36% from the field in the first half allowing Dawson to take a 52-37 lead into the halftime break.

Dawson would open the half on 8-3 run to give them a 20-point lead. As the teams emerged from a timeout the Jacks offense showed a sign of life. A 12-1 run over a three-minute stretch would cut the lead to 71-63. That's as close as the Jacks would get however as the shotting struggles would return. A 10-5 run allowed the Bucs to go back up by double figures a deficit the Jacks wouldn't be able to overcome falling by a final score

Jacob Smith led five Jacks in double figures with 20 points. Brendan Redhead scored 17, Loukas Triantis added in 16, and Max Groom and Shandon Judd-Danne Anderson each had 10 points. Damon Gros Ventre led Dawson and all scorers with 23 points.

With the loses DCB falls to 18-9 overall and 11-7 inside the Mon-Dak. Next up for the Jacks they host NDSCS on Sophomore night for the last home game of the regular season. Game time is set for 7:30p.m.
