Jacks Struggle to Find Their Groove

Jacks Struggle to Find Their Groove

The DCB Baseball team struggled to find their groove this past weekend during six Mon-Dak games in Montana.

NDSCS Series

The Jacks started the weekend with a two game series against NDSCS. DCB struck first with a run in the top of the first. The Wildcats tied the game up in the bottom of the second inning, just for the Jacks to take it back again in the top of the third. That's where the offense would stop for DCB as the Jacks only managed one hit in the game. The Wildcats would go on to win the game by a score of 12-2. Auston Medina and Brady Papineau had the RBIs for the Jacks. Medina and Andrew Carreon each picked up a stolen base. Starting pitcher Kolby Kovatch had three strikeouts. William Broderius had three strikeouts, and MJ Aasen had one in relief appearances.

Game two looked to be going the same with NDSCS putting up four runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Jacks seemed to find some momentum in the top of the third cutting the Wildcat lead to just one at 4-3. NDSCS would push the lead up to two runs with a run in the bottom of the fourth. The Jacks would tie the game at 5-5 with a two run sixth inning. Unfortunately the Wildcats would also score two runs in the sixth inning to regain a lead. The Jacks were unable to score in the seventh and would fall by a score of 7-5. Andrew Carreon doubled and had two RBIs in the contest. Auston Medina, Brady Papineau, and Blayke Reyburn each drove in a run. Dale Kjorstad had a double. On the basepaths Medina and Aaron Springer each had a stolen base. Starting pitcher Adam Leiman struck out three Wildcats.

MCC Series

In game one of the doubleheader the Pioneers pushed seven runs across in the first inning. The Jacks were able to get two runs of their own across in the top of the second. A run in each of the second and third innings allowed MCC to take a 9-2 lead. DCB was able to score two more runs in the top of the fourth to make the score 9-4, but that's as close as the Jacks would get falling 13-4. Brady Papineau drove in three runs, while Rhett Wolfrey had a double and an RBI. Lucas Dray and Riley Feldman each had a strikeout in three innings of work apiece.

In game two MCC got on the board first with a run in the top of the first inning. DCB was able to take the lead in the bottom of the first before the Pioneers tied the game in the top of the second. The teams traded goose eggs until the top of the fifth when the Pioneers were able to score 11 runs, a deficit the Jacks were unable to recover from falling 13-2. Aaron Springer and Brady Papineau each doubled in the game and had a stolen base. Springer and Andrew Carreon each had an RBI. Starting pitcher Shane Palmer had four strikeouts.

BSC Series

Game one saw the Jacks struggle to get any offense going, being held to just one hit from Auston Medina. BSC took game one 10-0. Gabriel Prater and Sutton Shurley each had one strikeout.

Game two saw similar struggles for the Jacks as they were only able to get two hits falling by a score of 11-1. Andrew Carreon doubled and Auston Medina picked up the other hit to drive in Carreon. Brock Alexander and MJ Aasen each had one strikeout.

After the weeknd DCB drops to 2-18 overall and 0-12 in the Mon-Dak. Next up for the Jacks includes trips to Gelndive on Saturday to take on Dawson Community College, Williston on Sunday to take on Williston State. A series with Bismarck will take place date and location TBD. All of this is weather permitting stay tuned to DCB social media channels for updates.
