Lumberjacks Are Going West

Last week the Lumberjack Baseball Team took advantage of the nice weather by playing a double header against Bismarck State College. This week DCB starts their 2-week road trip to Colorado and Arizona.  The Lumberjacks are slated to play 6 games in Colorado against the Colorado State University Club Team and the Adams State University JV.  In Arizona the Lumberjacks are slated to play 6 different teams, 8 games total.

The Lumberjacks will square of with Colorado State University first in Fort Collins.  The Rams are off to a 5-8 start, taking 4 of 5 against fellow MonDak team Williston State this past weekend.  After spending the night in Fort Collins, DCB will have a quick turn around traveling to Alamosa, Colorado and 4 games against Adams State University in Alamosa Thursday and Friday before there travel day to Tucson Arizona.

Once they get to Tucson, the Lumberjacks will play 8 games. They will start with a double header against California Miramar University on March 15th, then will have a couple days of only playing 1 game day as DCB will play White Rock on Monday and Wesleyan University on Tuesday. After a day off on the 18th the Lumberjacks will be back in action with a double header against White Rock and Anoka-Ramsey Community College. After that the Lumberjacks will play Augustana College on Friday and Hamline University on Saturday morning before heading back up north.

Just 2 games into the season the Lumberjacks are led at the plate by Blake Smith who is hitting .667. Coach LaCroix is excited to see what his team will do on the road trip. "This is a great opportunity for our players, a chance to see a lot of good teams and get plenty of at bats in". When asked about what he is looking for in his pitching staff Coach LaCroix commented "We want to see what we are made off, with 14 games we will get plenty of chances to see our guys work. This will be crucial for us especially before our first Mon-Dak games at the end of the month."  After a solid game against Bismarck State, Josh Churchill will get the ball Game 1 down in Colorado and will most likely will get another start in Arizona. "Churchill put together a solid outing for us first game of the season. We are looking for him to grow along with others on this road trip." commented Coach LaCroix
