Baseball falls in opening game of Mon-Dak tournament

Dakota College at Bottineau's effort to come back from down five runs in the third inning came up just short, as they fell 13-11 to Lake Region State College on Friday.

The Lumberjacks scored 11 runs in the failed comeback on a groundout in the third, a home run by Jordan Welcome in the third, a error in the third, a home run by Jordan Padilla in the fifth, a error in the fifth, and a home run by Victor Terrero in the seventh.

Both teams exchanged the lead back-and-forth in the game, but Lake Region State College eventually took the lead for good thanks to a stolen base in the eighth inning

Home runs for Dakota College at Bottineau came when Welcome homered in the third inning, Terrero homered in the seventh inning, and Padilla homered in the fifth inning.

The Lumberjacks collected 12 hits in the loss. Nick Sumstine, JJ Horvath, and Padilla each collected multiple hits for DCB. Terrero and Welcome each drove in three runs for the Lumberjacks.

DCB will now play the loser of the day's second game between Dawson CC and Bismarck State College at 5:30 on Friday afternoon in an elimination game.
