The Lumberjack baseball team traveled to play against Dawson CC in a four game game stand for Mon-Dak Conference rankings.

In the first game, even though DCB and Dawson both had their opportunities, it was Dawson that eventually prevailed 8-5 on Friday. The game was tied at three with Dawson batting in the bottom of the fourth when the Bucs doubled off of JJ Castelvecchi, driving in one run.

Dakota College at Bottineau took an early lead in the second inning. With two outs in the second inning AJ Prater drove in one run when he homered.

Dawson took the lead for good with three runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth the Bucs hit a sacrifice fly to drive in a run.

JJ Castelvecchi took the loss for Dakota Colleg. He tossed four innings, surrendering six runs, seven hits, and striking out one.

Home runs for the Jacks came when Kody Lane homered in the sixth inning and AJ Prater homered in the second inning.

DCB had seven hits in the game.  Kody Lane, Victor Terrero, and Nick Sumstine each collected multiple hits for by having two a piece.

In game two, the Jacks fell behind early and couldn't come back in an 11-3 loss to Dawson on Friday. Dawson scored on a walk in the first inning, a wild pitch in the first inning, a double in the second inning, an error in the second inning, and a single in the second inning.

The Jacks captured the lead in the first inning. JJ Horvath drove in one when he doubled in the first inning.

Dawson took the lead for good with four runs in the first inning. In the first there was an error, scoring one run and the Bucs laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring two runs.

Dawson scored five runs in the second inning. The big inning for Dawson came thanks to a double, an error, and a single.

Tyler Scheffer took the loss for the Lumberjacks. He tossed two and a third innings, giving up ten runs, and five hits.

Jordan Welcome and Horvath each drove in one run to lead Dakota College at Bottineau.

Game three would hope to bring a new day for the Jacks, so they were itching to get a win.  This game against Dawson was a heartbreaker for the Jacks, as they lost the lead late in a 9-5 defeat. Dawson was down 5-3 in the top of the sixth inning when the Bucs doubled off of Riley Kluin, driving in three runs.

Dawson took an early lead in the first inning. Dawson scored one run when the Bucs singled with two outs in the first inning.

After Dawson scored one run in the top of the fourth, DCB answered with one of their own. Dawson scored when there was an error, scoring one run. Then the Jacks answered when Victor Terrero homered off of the Bucs, driving in one run.

The Lumberjacks knotted the game up at three in the bottom of the fifth inning. AJ Prater singled on a 3-2 count in the fifth inning, scoring one run.

The Jacks scored four runs in the fifth inning. The big inning was thanks to a double by Nick Sumstine, a single by Prater, and a single.

Riley Kluin eventually took the loss for the Jacks. He pitched seven innings, surrendering nine runs, 11 hits, striking out five, and walking one.

Layne Cottingham, Sumstine, Terrero, Brody Moum, Kody Lane, Prater, and JJ Horvath each managed one hit to lead the Jacks.

In the final game of the final day, the Jacks needed to win at all costs to make the trip worthwhile.  With that being said, even though the Jacks and Dawson both had their opportunities, it was Dawson that eventually prevailed 9-5 on Saturday. The game was tied at five with Dawson batting in the top of the seventh when the Bucs singled off of Nick Sumstine, driving in one run.

After Dawson scored one run in the top of the fourth, the Jacks answered with one of their own. Dawson scored with a single off of Nick Sumstine, driving in one run. The Jacks then answered when Jordan Padilla hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored.

Nick Sumstine took the loss for the Jacks. He tossed seven innings, allowing nine runs, eight hits, and striking out 12.

Stephen Thornton, Padilla, and Sumstine each drove in one run to lead the Jacks.

The Jacks will next face the Mystics of Bismarck State for their first home game on 4/22 with the first pitch being at 1:00 pm.
