Lumberjacks Play Tight with Top Ranked Cougars

The Lumberjack women's hockey team who was ranked 2nd in the latest ACHA West Region rankings dropped a pair of games to ACC who was ranked 1st in the very same rankings by scores of 5-3 and 4-2.

5-3 Loss

Brennah McLaughlin put the Jacks on the board just 1:38 into the contest. Macy Wither and Sara Smith picked up the assists. Just over five minutes later the Cougars tied the game up at 1-1. ACC took the lead a minute and a half later. Kendall Guenther tied the game back up late in the first period off assists from Jenesha Hammond and Abby Forest. After one period the teams were tied at 2-2. Two unanswered Cougar goals in the second period gave them a 4-2 lead. Michelle Landsverk would get DCB back within one goal at the five-minute mark of the 3rd period McKenna Walls and Guenther snagged the assists. However, that's as close as the Lumberjacks would get as ACC would tag on a goal just past the halfway point of the period to take a 5-3 victory.

4-2 Loss

Walls would score the only goal of the first period to put the Jacks on top. Landsverk and Taylor Corkish had the assists. The Cougars would tie the game early in the second period on a shorthanded goal. DCB would execute on the powerplay to regain the lead as Hammond found the back of the net Alexandria Simmons and Jayden Carels dished the assists. ACC would tie the game back up on a powerplay goal of their own. As the teams skated to the locker room, they were tied at 2-2. Thirty seconds into the final period the Cougars would score and take the lead for good as just past the halfway point they would add another goal for the 4-2 victory.

DCB falls to 7-9. Next up for the Lumberjacks a road game Thursday at Lake Region State College with puck drop scheduled for 5:00p.m. before three straight nights at home to close out the regular season.
