Jacks Roll Past Royals

The Lumberjack Women's Hockey team dominated their home opener with a 7-1 win over Lake Region State College Wednesday night.

Sara Smith put the Jacks on the board first just over three minutes into the contest, Trinity Tanner picked up the assist. The Royals evened the game later in the period with a powerplay goal. Just past the halfway point of the period Brandi Yellow Wings found the back of the net to give DCB the lead back, Zoe Cupples was credited with the assist. The Jacks would extend their lead just 46 seconds later when Jenesha Hammond scored off assists from Smith, and Michelle Landsverk. After one period DCB led 3-1.

It would be all DCB in the second period, as the Jacks scored three goals in the period and held LRSC scoreless. Abby Forest scored five minutes into the period, Landsverk, and Tanner picked up their second assists of the contest. Tanner would score a goal of her own two minutes later off an assist from Hammond. Taylor Corkish would score the final goal of the period for the Jacks with less than four minutes remaining in the period, Anika Deschamps-Cross and Madison Thompson were credited with the assist. After two periods the Jacks led 6-1.

There would be only one goal scored in the period and it would be by a familiar face for the Jacks. Smith netted her second goal of the night off an assist from Brennah McLaughlin. The Jacks would win by a score of 7-1. Skyla Loutitt picked up the win in net for DCB and had 30 saves.

With the win DCB moves to 2-0 on the season. The Lumberjacks travel to Jamestown for a pair of games next Friday and Saturday.
