Big First Period Push Marauders Past Jacks

The top ranked University of Mary would edge the DCB Lumberjacks Wednesday night with the help of three first period goals to win 5-3.

The Marauders opened the scoring just prior to the halfway point in the period. Mary added two more goals one with three minutes remaining in the period and one with less then a minute to go in the opening period. The Jacks would answer back before the period came to a close as Kole Fitzpatrick netted his first goal of the season off a Fabian Vik assist. After one period Mary led 3-1 and held a 15-11 shots on goal advantage. DCB scored first in the second period when Matt Olson found the back of the net Brett Janssens and Ryan Patterson were credited with the assists. The Marauders would stretch the lead back out to two goals a few minutes later on a powerplay opportunity. Mary would take a 4-2 lead into the second intermission. Just twenty-six seconds into the final period of play Zach Diehl would cut the deficit back to just one goal Patterson earned another assist. With the teams skating 4-4 Mary added a goal to stretch their lead back to two goals. An insurance goal would allow Mary to win by the final score of 5-3. The Marauders out shot the Jacks 47-30 for the game and connected on one of two powerplay opportunities. The Jacks however couldn't score on their lone powerplay chance.

With the loss DCB falls to 7-17-0-2. Next up they have a home and home series with the University of Jamestown. Saturday they play in the Lumberdome game time set for 7:30p.m. The following day the teams play in Jamestown with puck drop set for 4:00p.m.
