The Lumberjack Women's Basketball team sent their sophomores out on a high note with an 87-51 win over Dawson Community College to close out the regular season.
The Jacks got it done on both ends of the floor in the opening 10 minutes. DCB held the Bucs to 17% shooting from the field and the Jacks forced 11 turnovers. In the first quarter. DCB shot 59% from the field to take control on the offensive end. Kiara Comeaux paced the Jacks with 12 points in the opening 10 minutes to take a 31-8 lead after the first quarter. The Jacks kept things rolling in the second quarter shooting 56% from the field. DCB forced 11 more DCC turnovers in the second quarter to take a 57-23 halftime lead. Day Whitehawk knocked down three 3-pointers in the quarter to pace the Jacks.
The Jacks kept things rolling on the defensive end of the floor coming out of halftime holding DCC to just 11 points and forcing 10 turnovers. Terayna Tapija-Jones paced DCB with 8 points in the quarter. The Jacks struggled offensively in the fourth quarter but had built a large enough lead to pick up the victory by a final score of 87-51.
Comeaux paced four Lumberjacks in double figures with 23 points she also dished 11 assists for a double double. Tapija-Jones scored 22 points off the bench, Whitehawk finished with 14 also coming off the bench. Amari Butler rounded out the Jacks double figure scorers with 11. Imari Humphrey led the Bucs with 18 points.
The Jacks finish the regular season 14-14 overall and 6-8 inside the Mon-Dak. DCB plays Geogebic Community College Saturday afternoon in the Region Semi-Final. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00p.m. at UTTC in Bismarck. The winner will advance to take on UTTC Sunday at 2:00p.m. in the Region Championship.
