The Lumberjack Women's Basketball team completed the season sweep of Miles Community College with an 89-73 victory Sunday afternoon.
The Jacks used a strong defensive effort in the opening 10 minutes holding the Pioneers to just 24% shooting and forcing 6 turnovers. Amari Butler and Kiara Comeaux combined for 17 of the teams 22 first quarter points. After one quarter DCB led 22-14. The Jacks continued to roll in the second quarter with Terayna Tapija-Jones scoring 11 points in the quarter, going a perfect 5-5 from the field. At halftime the Jacks led 47-28.
The Jacks struggled coming out of the locker room as they committed 10 turnovers. The Pioneers outscored DCB 25-19 in the third quarter. Heading to the fourth DCB led 66-53. The Jacks righted the ship in the fourth quarter, outscoring MCC by three to take an 89-73 victory.
Butler led all scorers and 5 lumber Jacks in double figures with 25 points. She also pulled down 10 rebounds for a double double. Comeaux finished with 18 points and completed her fourth triple double this season and her second in a row. Comeaux pulled down 11 rebounds and dished 14 assists which breaks a school record. Comeaux previously had tied the record twice with 13 once this season and once last. Haylie Conradsen had 13 assists back in 2020-21. Tapija-Jones scored 14 points and was one rebound shy of a double double. Karrington Eugene scored 14 points off the bench, and Day Whitehawk finished with 12 points. Tyla Scorah led the Pioneers with 19 points.
DCB improves to 13-14 overall and 5-8 inside the Mon-Dak. The Jacks close out the regular season tonight hosting Dawson Community College at 5:30p.m. It is also Sophomore night; sophomores will be honored prior to tonight's game.
