Butler Reaches 1,000 Career Points in Win Over Royals

On a night where Amari Butler joined Imani Scott (2013-2015) as the only women's basketball players in DCB history to surpass 1,000 career points, the Jacks would use a big second quarter to cruise to a 79-63 victory over Lake Region State College. Butler joins Scott, Brendan Redhead, and Max Groom as 1,000-point scorers

Butler entered the game needing 13 points to join the DCB 1,000-point club. The Jacks tried to get Butler going early but couldn't as she was held scoreless in the first quarter. DCB did get an offensive lift from Terayna Tapija-Jones who was 5-5 form the field for 10 points. At the end of one quarter LRSC led 22-18. Butler and the Jacks got rolling on both ends of the floor in the second quarter. Butler got rolling with 12 quick points. With 1:05 remaining in the quarter Butler got fouled and was sent to the line. Butler hit the first free throw to push her to 1,000 career points. Coach Johnson called a timeout allowing Butler to be recognized and celebrate with her teammates and have her accomplishment recognized. DCB outscored the Royals in the second quarter 28-8 to take a 46-30 lead into the locker room. The Jacks were able to stretch their lead to as many as 26 points in the second half enroute to a 79-63 victory.

Butler led all scorers and four Lumberjacks in double figures with 31 points she also had 16 rebounds for a double double. Day Whitehawk and Kiara Comeaux each had 13 points, Comeaux also had 10 rebounds and was one assist shy of a triple double. Tapija-Jones also finished in double figures with 10. Arden Faulkner led the Royals with 20 points she had 11 rebounds for a double double.  

The Jacks get back to .500 with the win at 12-12 and 4-6 in the Mon-Dak. DCB has won 5 of their last six games. DCB travels to Bismarck State on Sunday at 1:00p.m.
