The Lumberjack Women's Basketball team picked up their first conference win of the season Sunday afternoon thanks to a strong effort on the defensive end holding the Buccaneers to just 52 points and turning them over 27-time enroute to a 67-52 victory.
Both teams struggled out of the gate shooting a combined 22% from the field and scoring just 17 points in the opening 10 minutes. The Jacks held a narrow 9-8 lead after one quarter. The Jacks got the offense rolling in the second quarter shooting 50% from the field and had 5 different players scored. On the defensive end of the floor the Jacks held DCC to 26% shooting, forced 7 turnovers and just 12 points. At the half DCB led 20-12.
Coming out of the locker room Amari Butler took over for the Jacks, scoring 10 points in the quarter to lengthen the Jacks lead to 50-35. In the final period of play neither team was able to take control of the quarter as the teams traded baskets in the end DCB cruised to a 67-52 victory for their first Mon-Dak win of the season.
Butler led the all scorers and four Jacks in double figures with 26 points, she also pulled down 12 rebounds for a double-double. She was a steal shy of a triple-double. Terayna Tapija-Jones scored 13 points and had 10 rebounds for a double-double off the bench. Serinity Soland and BrandeeRhae Mays scored 11 and 10 points respectively. Jasmine Half led the Bucs with 16 points.
With the win the Jacks improved to 8-11 and 1-5 in the Mon-Dak. DCB travels to Miles Community College tonight with tip-off scheduled for 6:30p.m.(CST).
