Lumberjacks Cruise Past Thunderbirds

The Lumberjack women's basketball team used a strong third quarter to sperate themselves from the United Tribes Technical College Thunderbirds Monday night going on to win 108-87.

The Jacks started slow falling behind 11-4 early in the first quarter. Over the next several minutes DCB picked up the intensity on both ends of the floor and was able to go on a 10-0 run to take a 14-11 lead. During the remainder of the quarter the teams would trade baskets and the lead a few times. It would be DCB that would take a narrow 27-24 lead into the second quarter of play at 27-24. A balanced offensive attack and strong rebounding allowed the Lumberjacks to slowly pull away in the second quarter. DCB outrebounded UTCC 77-57 including 38 offensive rebounds. At halftime the Jacks led 54-39.

DCB opened the second half on a 12-0 run to push their lead to 66-39. From there the Jacks continued to get things done on both ends of the floor doubling up the Thunderbirds in the quarter and taking an 85-54 lead into the final 10 minutes of play. In the fourth quarter UTTC was able to knock down some shots but were never able to get within striking distance of the Lumberjacks with DCB picking up the 108-87 win.

Rozalind Strong led all scorers and four Lumberjacks in double figures with 27 points she also pulled down 10 rebounds for a double-double. Kiara Comeaux added a season high 26 points off the bench. Hanna Plumbtree finished with a double-double dropping 20 points and 18 rebounds, also off the bench. Amari Butler scored 14 points to join her teammates in double figures. Myonna Dauphinais led the Thunderbirds with 21 points.

DCB move their record back to .500 overall at 11-11 and 5-8 inside the Mon-Dak. Next up for the Lumberjacks they finally get to return to the friendly confines of "The Woodshed" taking on NDSCS. Tipoff scheduled for 5:30p.m. Thursday night
