Shooting Struggles Cost Jacks

A poor shooting second half would spell trouble for the Lumberjack women's basketball team Friday afternoon. DCB would shoot just 14% in the second half and drop their season opener to Bismarck State College 67-48.

The Jacks got off to a quick start with Rozalind Strong scoring two early baskets. DCB would be able to build their lead up to as many as 11 thanks to a strong defensive effort that would force 14 first half turnovers by the Mystics. Late in the first half BSC was briefly able to tie the game at 29. On the ensuing Jacks possession Strong would score to give the Jacks the lead back. At the half DCB led 35-31.

Both teams struggled to find a rhythm early in the second half. Eventually the Mystics would come out of it and take the lead. Despite forcing 16 more BSC turnovers in the second half DCB could not find a groove in the second half as they made just six field goals on forty-two attempts for a 14% shooting half. DCB was unable to make a 3-pointer in the contest going 0-10. In the end the Mystics would go on to win 67-48.

Strong led three Lumberjacks in double figures with 12 points, Amari Butler added 11 and Kiara Comeaux chipped in 10. Brynnlee Murdock led the Mystics and all scorers with 19.

With the loss DCB falls to 0-1 overall and in the Mon-Dak. The Lumberjacks will play day two of the Mon-Dak Tip-off Tournament tomorrow with start time approximately 1:45p.m. Opponent is TBD as of this writing stay tuned to DCB Athletics for updates.
