Ladyjacks Fall in Region Championship

The Ladyjacks basketball seasoned ended Sunday afternoon in the Region 13 Championship Game falling to united Tribes 98-74. The Ladyjacks got to the Championship Game with a 61-49 win over Gogebic Community College.

61-49 Win

The Ladyjacks were clicking on both ends of the floor jumping out to a 10-2 lead thanks good ball movement and a press that gave Gogebic fits. DCB continued to roll stretching their lead to 17-6. At the end of the first quarter DCB led 19-9.  Between the forced turnovers and second chance points the Ladyjacks were able to stretch their lead to 33-17 as the game reached halftime. In the second half DCB continued to use the same formula that worked in the first keeping the gap between 14-17 points for most of the third quarter. At the end of the third quarter the Ladyjacks were in full control leading 44-29. In the fourth quarter the Ladyjacks stretched their lead to 18 at 59-41. A late 8-2 run would allow GCC to get the gap down to 12 but at the point there was not enough time left and DCB advanced to the Region Championship with a 61-49 victory.  DCB forced 28 turnovers in the win and had 25 offensive rebounds.

Jacie Hall led three Ladyjacks in double-figures with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Sabra Peterson chipped in 12 and Koylynn Gulliford dropped in 10 points and 13 rebounds. Emily Nelson led the Samsons with 16 points.

98-74 Loss

United Tribes used a press that resulted in turnovers for the Ladyjacks and good three-point shooting to take an early 8-2 lead. A quick 6-2 run by the Ladyjacks cut the lead back down to two for the Thunderbirds. UTTC responded with a 8-0 run of their own to get the lead up to 10 at 18-8 as the teams headed to the bench for the media timeout. Out of the media timeout the Thunderbirds continued to stretch the lead to 23-11. At the end of the first quarter UTTC led 30-21. In the second quarter the thing that pushed the Ladyjacks passed the Samsons would be their Achilles heel vs the Thunderbirds. UTTC picked up 17 offensive rebounds leading to numerous second chance points. At the half DCB trailed 54-34. The Thunderbirds kept the offensive rolling in the second half and despite a valiant effort a Ladyjack team that had been shorthanded all season couldn't keep up with the blistering pace set by UTTC. After three quarters UTTC led 75-48. In the fourth quarter the Ladyjack offensive found a grove with a 26 point quarter their best quarter of the game, however the deficit was to much to overcome and DCB would fall by a final score of 98-74.  

Koylynn Gulliford led all scorers with a career-high 28 points. Jacie Hall finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds for her 20th double-double of the season. Hall was one assist shy of a triple-double with 9 assists finding an open teammate after drawing a double tea. Alyssa St Pierre added 17 points to join Hall and Gulliford in double-figures. Myona Dauphiais led the Thunderbirds with 19 points. The Ladyjacks finish their season 7-25.
