Ladyjacks Can’t Complete Late Rally

The Ladyjacks basketball team found themselves down double figures multiple times against Mile Community College. Each time DCB would fight back to get it under single digits including down to six in the final minute, but were unable to complete the comeback falling 70-62.

The Pioneers used the three ball to start the game on a 9-0 run forcing a quick DCB timeout. Out of timeout DCB was able to knock down a three of their own. MCC responded with back-to-back threes to take a15-3 lead. The Ladyjacks defense and offense would settle in and finish the quarter on 11-3 run to cut the gap to four at 18-14. The second quarter saw another big run by the Pioneers in the first six minutes of the quarter outscoring the Ladyjacks 19-8. The Ladyjacks mounted the charge for the second time in the game out scoring MCC in the final four minutes 9-3 to cut the halftime deficit to 40-31.

Just like the two quarters before it the third quarter saw the Pioneers go on a run to start the quarter. This time it was a 10-2 run to stretch their lead to 17 at 50-33. After a quick timeout to trying and stop the MCC momentum the Ladyjacks were able to play even with the Pioneers the remainder of the quarter. Heading into the fourth quarter Miles led DCB 59-42. The Ladyjacks turned up the heat on defense and had one more offensive rally in them. DCB was able to force MCC into turnovers and get good offensive possessions on the other end. Koylynn Gulliford made a lay up with 4:35 to play to cut the lead to seven at 63-56. Miles would be able to stretch the lead back to 10 points just a minute later. The team would trade missed shot for the next two minutes. Sabra Peterson would knock down a 3-pointer with just over a minute in a half to play to cut it to a seven-point deficit. On the next Pioneers possession, they hit a baseline jumper at the end of the shot clock. Alyssa St Pierre would get fouled on the next DCB trip down the floor and hit two free throws to cut the lead back to seven. The Ladyjacks got a much-needed stop and had an opportunity to cut the Miles lead to as little as four with under a minute to play. Peterson would be fouled and make one free throw. Miles was able to get another bucket on their next passion holding on to win 70-62.

Jacie Hall led four Ladyjacks in double figures with 21 points. Peterson added 13 including four 3-pointers. Alyssa St Pierre scored 11, and Gulliford dropped in 10 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double. India Blyth led all scorers with 22 points.

With the loss the Ladyjacks fall to 2-6 overall and 0-6 in Mon-Dak play. DCB hosts TMCC for a non-conference game Wednesday with game time scheduled for 6:00p.m. in "The Woodshed." The Ladyjacks won their prior meeting on November 1st 64-60.
