Ladyjacks Protect the Woodshed

This past week the Ladyjacks Basketball team played three times. They squared off on Monday in Bismarck against the Mystics, returned home to play Lake Region State College, and finished the weekend against Northland Community College.

To start the week off, the Ladyjacks fell to the Mystics 69-53. In the game, the Ladyjacks never led, as they fell behind 48-21 at halftime. In the second half, the Ladyjacks outscored the Mystics by 11 points, but it was not enough to cut into the massive gap that was created in the first half. Sabra Peterson led the Ladyjacks in scoring with 11 points, while Courtney Herman was the only other Ladyjack to score in double figures with 10 points.

Two days later, the Ladyjacks returned to action as they hosted the Royals. Coming off back-to-back losses, the Ladyjacks were looking to win a game. It was clear early on that they meant business, as they came out scoring 21 points while holding the Royals to eight. The Royals continued to fall behind as the Ladyjacks outscored the Royals in every quarter. The final score read Ladyjacks 81 Royals 41. The Ladyjacks had six players score in double figures, that being Maria Moore (13), Haylie Conradsen (12), Trinity Goggles (11), Koylynn Gulliford (10), and Jaidyn Brummond (10). Gulliford ended the night with a double-double as she had 10 rebounds to go along with her 10 points.

In the final game of the week, the Ladyjacks hosted the Pioneers from Northland Community College. Although the Pioneers came into the game ranked third in the NJCAA Division III poll, the Ladyjacks had defeated them just a few weeks earlier, with the final score reading 72-45. The first quarter ended up being tight, one that saw a late three pointer give the Ladyjacks a three point lead (14-11) going into the second quarter. That three point shot was a momentum shifter. In the second quarter alone, the Ladyjacks went eight for nine from behind the arch. Taking the lead with those 34 points, the Ladyjacks entered halftime at a 44-25 lead. Both teams played even in the second half, with both teams scoring 29 points a piece, making the final score Ladyjacks 80 Pioneers 53.

Next up for the Ladyjacks is an away trip to Montana, where they will take on Miles City Community College and Dawson Community College.

"Both tough games, especially on the road. We believe we have learned a lot in these two weeks since the break and think we are ready to keep moving forward", Coach Johnson commented on the upcoming games.
