Ladyjacks Split at AmericanInn Classic

Ladyjacks Split at AmericanInn Classic

This past weekend the Ladyjacks basketball team had 7-3 record, and were eager to get back on the court to carry the momentum built up over the previous two games. With victories over Miles City Community College and NHSC, the Ladyjacks were set to play the Jamestown Jimmies JV and Bryan & Stratton College (WI). Bryant & Stratton College (WI), who are rated 15th in the country at the NJCAA D2 level, would give DCB the opportunity to show how they can compete on the national level.

The first game of the weekend would square DCB off with the Jamestown Jimmies JV program. It was clear right away that the defensive side of the ball was going to be setting the tone for the Ladyjacks. DCB would show a tremendous defensive effort in the first quarter, only giving up five points at the end of the first period. Using their defense to fuel their offense, the Ladyjacks built a strong lead that they would never relinquish, going into halftime break with a lead of 39-17. DCB would dominate the second half and continue to widen the lead, ending the game with a final score of 76-45. "We came out with great energy on the defensive end of the court and that set the table for the game early. They have a very strong high low attack, and our ladies did a great job of shutting that down, taking them out of what they wanted to do and creating 27 turnovers," Coach Johnson commented.

One of the areas where Coach Johnson would like to see improvement is on the offensive side of the ball, stating, "Offensively we need to sharpen our execution in regard to our spacing and movement." The Ladyjacks were led once again by Maria Moore who dumped in 21 points, followed by Kaitlynn Scherr who had 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 steal.

In the second game at the AmericInn Classic, the Ladyjacks faced Bryant & Stratton College (WI). It was evident that the areas for growth pointed out by Coach Johnson were accurate. Mix that in with only shooting 1-15 from long range dampened the Ladyjacks chances of winning. After the game Coach Johnson commented, "Offensively we need to sharpen our execution in regard to our spacing and movement." Defensively Coach Johnson was happy with how hard the Ladyjacks worked on the defensive side of the court, even with the score favoring Bryant & Stratton.

Up next, the Ladyjacks they will square off with NHSC again, only this time at the Woodshed on Tuesday night at 6:00 P.M. DCB will look to get momentum going again, get back in the win column, and finish the semester on a strong note.
