A Shaun Armstrong three pointer from the Jacks logo just past mid court would beat the buzzer to give DCB their first win over the Wildcats in more than 15 years. Winning by a final score of 80-78.
A back and forth first half saw three ties and nine lead changes. The largest lead of the first half was the Jacks at six. As the first half came to an end Armstrong would hit a three from the left wing to give DCB a 43-38 lead. Armstrong finished the first half with 10 points while Edward Lual led DCB with 11 points.
In the second half there was again very little separation with the exception of one run by NDSCS to give them a nine-point lead. The Jacks didn't go away quietly and crawled back into it. Thanks in part to Jalen Blanchard who had 11 second half points. The Jacks found themselves down three with just under a minute remaining. Tough defense from the Jacks forced a tough Wildcat shot and gave DCB the ball back with just under 40 seconds to play. Armstong would come off a screen at the top of the key and knock down a three pointer to tie the game at 77-77 with 28.4 seconds remaining. The Wildcats would call a timeout with 10 seconds remaining. The Jacks would foul out of the timeout giving the Wildcats two free throws with 5.5 seconds remaining. NDSCS would go 1 of 2 at the line. DCB would not take a timeout and let the game play out. The ball would be in Armstrong's hands again and just like the previous possession he would come off a high ball screen. Armstrong got the shot off from the axe in the Jacks logo just past halfcourt and beat the buzzer sending his teammates and student section into a frenzy. The Jacks would take the game by a final score of 80-78.
Armstrong led three Lumberjacks in double figures with 21 points. Blanchard finished with 19 and Lual had 15. Nidas Paulauskas led the Wildcats and all scorers with 22 points.
DCB improves to 15-10 overall and 2-7 inside the Mon-Dak. The Jacks host Lake Region State College tonight at 7:30p.m.
