Sharp Shooting Thunderbirds Down Lumberjacks

The Lumberjack men's basketball team would be unable to overcome 18 made 3-pointers from the United Tribes Thunderbirds Wednesday night in a 95-79 loss.

The first half was a back-and-forth affair in the early going. The teams traded baskets and the lead for much of the first half. The Thunderbirds were able to build a nine-point halftime lead at 42-33 thanks in part to 10 offensive rebounds. Max Groom paced the Jacks in the first half with 14 points.

A 14-3 run to start the second half for UTTC would spell trouble for DCB as the Thunderbirds took a 56-36 lead early in the second half. The Lumberjacks would eventually get the deficit down to nine points a couple of times but each time the Thunderbirds would have an answer in the form of a 3 pointer as they shot 12-20 (60%) from deep in the second half. Phil Gibaut had a nice second half for the Jacks scoring 18 points in the final 20 minutes of play including 4 3-pointers. In the end though it would be the Thunderbirds coming out on top 95-79.

Groom led three Lumberjacks in double figures with 21 points, Gibaut joined him with 20, and Brendan Redhead finished with 14 points. Houston Davis led all scorers and the Thunderbirds with 27 points.

With the loss DCB falls to 16-13 overall and 8-12 inside the Mon-Dak. Next up for the Jacks is their regular season finale at home against Williston State. This game will serve as Sophomore Day with tipoff scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
