Redhead Scores 1,000th Point in Jacks Victory over Pioneers

On a night when Sophomore Brendan Redhead became Dakota College at Bottineau's first 1,000-point scorer, the Lumberjack men's basketball team would take down the Miles Community College Pioneers 82-71.

Max Groom knocked down a three to get the game started. On the next Lumberjack possession Redhead would knock down a jumper in the lane to send him over the 1,000-point milestone. Coach Karl Sorby would call a timeout allowing Redhead to enjoy the moment with his teammates and get a standing ovation from the fans in "The Woodshed."  From there it was back to business the Jacks started the game on an 11-2 run. The Pioneers worked their way back into it contention cutting the Lumberjack lead to 22-18. However, over the final five minutes it was all DCB as they finished the half on a 22-11 run to take a 44-29 lead into halftime. Redhead paced the Jacks in the first half with 17 points. DCB also got a nice lift off the bench from Shaun Armstrong who hit two three pointers.

In the second half the Lumberjacks were able to keep the Pioneers at arm's length holding a double-digit lead for much of the second half. It was done in part to a strong defensive effort as the Lumberjacks held MCC to just 9.5% from beyond the arc in the game. The Pioneers were able to get as close as eight at 70-62. DCB would pull away in the final minutes to win 82-71.

Redhead led five Lumberjacks in double figures with 21 points, Max Groom and Danny Lazic each had 13 points, Armstrong finished with 12 points and Brayden West-Linnett added 10 points. Aguir Dawam led the Pioneers and all scorers with 22 points.

With the win DCB improves to 16-11 overall and 8-10 in the Mon-Dak. Next up DCB takes on RV NDSCS on the road Monday. Game time is set for 7:30p.m.
