Redhead Gets Red Hot "Again" Pushes Jacks Past Mystics in Overtime Classic

The fans inside the Bismarck Armory were treated to an instant classic Monday night. Brendan Redhead scored a game-high 48 points and hit 11 three pointers tying the unofficial school record held by JJ Morris from 2015-16. The Jack would win narrowly 106-103 in overtime.

The Lumberjacks started out slow but halfway through the first half they found a groove on the offensive end of the floor. DCB would knock down six straight three pointers with one coming from Luke Valencia, two coming from Brayden West-Linnett, and Brendan Redhead knocking down three including a 35-footer from the Mystic logo. This great shooting stretch would give the Jacks a 26-18 lead. The Mystics would respond with a 10-4 run and cut the DCB lead back to two. The Jacks would hold a narrow lead until the final 90 seconds of the half when they would go on a quick 5-0 run to take a 48-41 lead into the half. Redhead paced the Jacks with 20 points.

The Lumberjacks started out slow and allowed the Mystics were able to get back into the game. A pair of three pointers from West-Linnett and Valencia would give DCB breathing room momentarily. The Mystics would battle to within one possession multiple times before eventually tying the game. Down the stretch the teams would trade baskets, there would be multiple ties, but the Mystics would never take the lead outright. The game saw six ties and nine ties. The Mystics would tie the game with 22 seconds remaining in regulation. The Jacks would get a couple of looks but were unable to get the shots to fall and the teams prepared for overtime tied at 90.

In the overtime period Max Groom would score to put the Jacks ahead. On the ensuing BSC possession they would knock down a three from the wing to give them their first lead since the first half. The Mystics would push their lead to five at 97-92. A Redhead three pointer would cut the deficit to two. On the next Mystic possession DCB would get a stop but immediately turn the ball over. On the inbound BSC would be called for an offensive foul. The next trip down the floor would see Redhead knock down yet another 3-pointer from beyond the volleyball attack line to give DCB a one-point lead at 98-97. The Mystics would retake the lead on a pair of free throws. The Jacks would get the lead back on a Groom layup, but only momentarily as the Mystics answered right back. To take a 101-100 lead. Groom was fouled on the Jacks next possession and made one free throw to tie the game. BSC would retake the lead with under a minute to play in the game 103-101. It would be Redhead who would come up big again knocking down his 11th trey of the night to give the Jacks the lead back. The Jacks defense would come up big and force a shot clock violation with seven seconds remaining. Groom would be fouled and knock down both free throws to put DCB up 106-103 with 7.3 seconds remaining. BSC would get two shots to tie the game but a block by Shandon Judd-Danne Anderson as time expired would seal the deal for the Jacks.

Redhead led all scorers with 48 points, Groom joined him in double figures with 21 points 17 of those coming in the second half or overtime. Danny Lazic also reached double-figures with 10 points. Isaiah Davis led the Mystics with 22 points.
