Jacks Withstand Royals Second Half Rally

The Lake Region State College Royals would cut what was an 18-point halftime lead down to just three with under 30 seconds remaining in the game, but the Jacks would hold on to win by the final score of 87-83.

A slow paced first half saw both offenses struggle to get anything going early. The Jacks would use a balanced attack with all eight Jacks in uniform scoring at least three points in the quarter. Over the final 7:21 of the first half DCB would go on a 19-8 run to stretch their halftime lead to 48-30. Brendan Redhead paced the Jacks with 9 first half points.

The Royals would come out and slowly begin to chip away at the Jacks lead. Just prior to the halfway point of the second half LRSC went on a 13-5 run to cut the DCB lead to just five at 61-56. The closest the game had been since early in the first half. Down the stretch Lake Region would get big baskets from Blessed Barhayiga and Ja'vion Byers to keep dwindling the Jacks lead. A three by Max Groom part of his nine-point second half would push the Jacks lead back to nine with just over five minutes to play. The Royals didn't go away though as Byers would continue to hit difficult shots. Down the stretch it came down to how well the Jacks could shoot free throws. In the second half the Jacks shot just 63% nearly 10% below the team's season average. Byers would knock down a deep three pointer to cut the lead to three at 86-83 with 4.9 seconds left. Groom would make one free throw to ice it giving the Jacks an 87-83 win.

Brendan Redhead led five Jacks in double figures with 22 points. Loukas Triantis and Max Groom each had 14 with Groom's coming off the bench. Jacob Smith scored 12 points and Connor Trahan added in 12. Ja'vion Byers scored a game high 34 points.
