Dawson Rallys to end Jacks Win Streak

The nine-game win streak of the DCB Lumberjack Basketball Team came to an end Thursday night at the hands of the Dawson Community College Bucs by a score of 100-88.

A hot start to the game allowed the Jacks to race out to an early lead at 15-7. A 23-8 un over 6:30 allowed DCB to take a 43-18 lead and force a DCC timeout. Out of the timeout the Dawson offense found a grove finishing the final 6:46 on an 18-4 to cut the halftime gap to 47-36. The Jacks had the edge in the first half thanks to a 59% shooting percentage from beyond the arc.

In the second half Dawson continued to slowly chip away at the Jacks lead. DCB was able to hold a 4–8-point lead for much of the early stretch of the second half. A Payton Sanders 3 from the top of the key tied the game for the first time at 65-65. The teams traded 3's and the lead multiple times down the stretch. The second half saw 11 lead changes and 4 ties. An offensive rebound and putback by Ty Buckmon but Dawson up 85-83. Dawson finished the game on a 15-5 run to win by the final score of 100-88.

Brendan Redhead led four Jacks in double-figures with 23 points. Max Groom scored 20, Connor Trahan had 19, and Jacob Smith dropped in 12. Damon Gros Ventre led all scorers with 28 points.

With the loss DCB drops to 16-5 and 9-3 in the Mon-Dak. The Jacks host United Tribes on Sunday in a key region match-up. DCB currently sits one game ahead of UTTC in the Mon-Dak standings entering the contest. The higher of the two teams is the one seed in the regional tournament. The Jacks took down the Thunderbirds in an overtime thriller earlier this season 107-106. Game time Sunday is set for 3:00p.m.
