Jacks Survive Late Mystic Rally

The DCB men's basketball team extended their win streak to 7 games, but they would have to survive a late rally by the Mystics of Bismarck State College.

The Jacks offense got going early in the first half with the help of the long ball. DCB shot 7-13 53.8% from beyond the arc in the first half. Connor Trahan scored 18 first half points to put the Jacks in control early. Jaden Hamilton of BSC allowed the game to stay close with 11 first half points. At the break DCB led by a score of 44-33.

In the second half the Mystics slowly began to chip away at the DCB lead. Foul trouble became an issue for the Jacks as game high scorer Connor Trahan picked up his fourth foul with 13:08 remaining in the second half. After the Trahan foul the Mystics went on a 6-0 run to cut the Jacks lead to just three at 60-57. Over the next three minutes both teams struggled to score with neither team netting a basket. Just prior to the halfway point of the second half BSC connected on a pair of free throws to cut the DCB lead down to one. Brendan Redhead was able to get an offensive rebound and put it back in for two points. On the next trip down the floor Max Tschosik hit a corner three to tie the game at 62 all. With six minutes to play the Jacks held a one-point lead at 66-65. Loukas Triantis found Max Groom on the wing for an open three to stretch the lead back to four at 69-65. On the next trip down the floor Deconte' Martinez beat the shot clock for a wing three to bring BSC back down one. After a defensive stop Martinez grabbed an offensive rebound and put BSC up for the first time in the game. A quick turnover and two points put the Mystics up 72-71. On the ensuing Jacks possession Jacob Smith got a shot around the rim to go plus a shot at a free throw. Smith connected on the free throw to tie the game back up. Max Groom would get an offensive rebound and put back to put the Jacks up for good. Over the final 3:23 the Jacks defense did their job and the offense got rolling again. DCB would win by the final score of 88-79.

Connor Trahan led all scorers and five Jacks in double figures with 30 points. Jacob Smith finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Brendan Redhead and Max Groom each finished with 12 points. Redhead dished out a season high 7 assists. Loukas Triantis finished with 11 points off the bench. Jaden Hamilton led the Mystics with 23 points.

With the win DCB improves to 14-4 overall and 7-2 in the Mon-Dak. The Jacks travel to Lake Region State College on Wednesday with tip off scheduled for 8:30p.m.
