The Lumberjack Baseball team traveled to Tucson Arizona for their spring break trip this past week the Jacks went 3-4 on the trip.
5-4 loss to Delta Bluejays 18U Select Team
The Jacks found themselves down 5-2 entering the bottom of the seventh and would push across two runs but would not be able to push across the tying run falling 5-4. Engerben Moreno doubled, and Joe Plett had a triple for the extra base hits for the Jacks. Kaeden Wilcox, Dalton Vangorden, and Ayden Ramirez all had an RBI, and Kayden Cey swiped two bases. D"Angelo Bouctouche and Grady Davis each registered three strikeouts on the mound.
5-4 win over Minnesota West
A base hit in the bottom of the eighth inning from Cey would give the Jacks their first win of the trip. Dalton Vangorden drove in two runs, Dominic Holmstrup, and Carter Ralton also drove in one run apiece. Wilcox and McLeod Sell each stole a base, and for the second consecutive game Cey tallied two stolen bases. Nathaniel McGill struck out five Bluejays in five innings of work. Bryce Meyers had one strikeout in an inning of relief and Ayden Lasson earned the win striking out two in two innings of work.
14-13 loss to Minnesota West
Minnesota West returned the favor in game two of the doubleheader with a walk-off hit of their own. Plett doubled and drove in two runs, as did Wilcox. Cey, Vangorden, and Ralston stayed hot each while driving in a run. The Jacks were thieves on the base paths, Plett stole four bases, while Wilcox added three. Vangorden, Cey, Ralston, Ramirez, Sell, Elijah Mata, and Tatum Packer each stole a base. Owen Taylor had three strikeouts starting on the mound. Andrew Crowe registered five strikeouts in relief, and Derek Borino also had a strikeout in relief.
14-4 win over Rainy River
The Jacks took control of the game in the first inning and never looked back. Vangorden homered and drove in three runs. While Plett doubled and also drove in three runs. Cey continued his hot streak at the plate with a triple. Moreno, and Holmstrup each drove in two runs, and Packer and Wilcox were each credited with one RBI. Plett, Wilcox, Packer, and sell all stole a base. Ralston had one strikeout and Meyers picked up the win while striking out two.
14-9 win over Rainy River
The Jacks kept things rolling against Rainy River in game two with a 14-9 win. Packer homered and drove in two runs. Vangorden had two doubles and an RBI. Ramirez doubled and drove in four runs; Ralston continued the hit parade with a double and two runs batted in. Cey tripled and drove in three runs. Sell and Willcox also drove in a run. Cey, Plett, and Sel all added a stolen base to their season total. Hunter Hansen had two strikeouts in three innings. Cade Buxton had a strikeout in a relief appearance. Nolan Wright picked up the win and Borino struck out three of the four batters he faced to close the game.
6-0 loss to Riverland
Wilcox tallied two of the Jacks five hits in the game and despite the loss Davis had five strikeouts.
15-8 loss to Williston State College
An eight run first inning would not be enough for the Jacks as the Tetons had two six run innings enroute to a 15-8 victory. Plett doubled and drove in three runs. Moreno was credited with two RBIs, and Cey, Packer, and Ramirez all drove in runs. Cey also snagged two more stolen bases. Reed Wall had two strikeouts starting on the mound. Borino and Taylor both registered a strikeout in relief appearances.
DCB record sits at 9-7. The Jacks travel to Marysville, KS this weekend for a four-game series with Northland Community College.
