Jacks Control Both Third Periods in Sweep of Royals

The Lumberjack Women's Hockey team closed out their regular season on a high note scoring 9 goals twice in a weekend sweep of Lake Region State College. The Jacks took game one 9-4 and game two 9-5.

9-4 Win                                                      

It took just 55 seconds for DCB to score two goals Friday night. The first came off the stick of Jenna Moormann with Macy Wither assisting. The Lumberjacks second goal in the opening minute was scored by McKenna Walls. Taylor Corkish and Jenesha Hammond had the assists. Just past the five-minute mark of the period LRSC cut the Jacks lead to 2-1 after a shorthanded goal. Less than a minute later the Jacks stretched their lead back out to 3-1 when Hammond executed on the powerplay unassisted. The Royals didn't go away though cutting the Jacks lead back to one just ninety seconds later. The final goal of the first period was scored by Wither with Kendall Guenther dishing the assist. After one period DCB led 4-2.

Scoring slowed down in the second period with each team scoring just one goal. The Jacks executed on the powerplay for the second time when Corkish found the back of the net. Hammond and Danee Crepeele were credited with assists. LRSC added a goal just past the halfway point of the period to make the score 5-3 in favor of the Jacks.

After the Royals scored to open the scoring in the third period, the score was 5-4 Jacks. After that in was all Jenesha Hammond as she scored three straight goals for the Jacks Guenter and Crepeele had one assist each and Corish and Walls each had two assists. Rianne Shotclose closed out the scoring for DCB with an unassisted goal to give the Jacks the win by a final score of 9-4. Jacey Larson earned the win in net with 33 saves.

9-5 win

It would be the Royals that would strike first in Saturday's game with a goal 14 minutes into the game. Wither tied the game with a shorthanded goal two minutes later, Moormann had the assist. The Royals retook the lead on a powerplay goal in the second period. Moormann would tie the game back up with an unassisted goal just past the halfway point of the period. Less than a minute later LRSC scored their second powerplay goal of the period to go back up 3-2. The Jacks were able to even the game late in the period when Corkish found the back of the net off a Walls assist.

Guenter gave DCB their first lead of the game at 4-3 three and half minutes into the final period with an unassisted goal, Cydny Price then pushed the Jacks lead to 5-3. The Royals didn't go away though answering back with two straight goals to tie the game back up at 5-5. From their however it was all Lumberjacks as DCB netted four straight goals to takeover the game. The first of the four goals was scored by Brandi Yellow Wings with Price assisting. Then Corkish would net her second of the game on the powerplay, Walls snagged the assist.  Yellow Wings returned the favor assisting Price on a powerplay goal. The Jacks final goal of the game came shorthanded when Hammond found the back of the net unassisted. When the horn sounded DCB picked up the win 9-5. Skyla Louttit picked up the win in net with 39 saves.

DCB finishes the regular season 8-11-1-0. The Jacks now wait to see if they qualify for the ACHA D2 National Tournament. The Jacks were ranked 4th in the last West Regional Rankings released by the ACHA. DCB must be ranked 3rd or higher to receive an invite to the National tournament.
