Jacks go 2-1 During Homestand

The Lumberjack Women's Hockey Team picked up two wins over their three game homestand this past weekend. Falling to defending National Champions Sault College 5-0. Then picking up back-to-back wins over Minnesota Duluth 9-2 and 12-3.

The Cougars scored two goals in the first period, added one more in the second period, and tacked on two in the third to win the game 5-0. Jacks goalie Skyla Louttit had 74 saves in the loss.

Jenesha Hammond opened the scoring for the Jacks just 28 seconds into the contest with an unassisted goal. Martina Vrbinska scored an unassisted powerplay goal to push the DCB lead to 2-0. Ella Stow closed out the scoring for the period with assists coming from Brooklyn Raine and Jenna Moormann.

 DCB added four more goals in the second period. The first came when Hammond picked up her second goal of the contest, Calleja Misson and McKenna Walls had the assists. Stow then netted her second goal of the game and Misson picked up her second assist. Taylor Corkish would make it 6-0 DCB with her first goal of the season, Vrbinska had the assist. Stow scored for the second time in the period and the third time in the game off a Bree Martell assist to make it 7-0 Jacks as the second period came to an end.

Stow opened the scoring in the third period for her fourth goal of the afternoon unassisted. With just over thirteen minutes remaining Duluth got on the board with a powerplay goal. DCB answered right back when Kendall Guenther found the back of the net thanks to a Moormann assist. The Bulldogs added one more goal to make the final score 9-2. Louttit picked up the win in net with 16 saves.

In the final game of the weekend Martell opened the scoring for the Lumberjacks, she was assisted by Stow and Misson. The Bulldogs even the game at 1-1 just two minutes later. DCB would retake the lead when Walls with assists coming form Hammond and Raine. Sara Smith netted her first goal of the weekend and Macy Wither had the assist. The Jacks closed out the scoring for the period with Hammond picking up a goal to go with her assist Walls was credited with the assist.

 Vrbinska opened the scoring in the second period Martell picked up another assist on the weekend. Martell would then score her second goal of the contest. Duluth would get a goal back to close out the second period scoring making the score 6-2 DCB after two periods of play.

The Jacks really broke things open in the final 20 minutes of play with six goals. Walls netted two goals, Danee Crepeele, Guenther, Misson, and Corkish all scored for the Jacks. Hammond and Corkish each tallied two assists in the period while Guenther, Misson, and Crepeele each had one. The Bulldogs did score once in the period to make the final score 12-3 in favor of the Lumberjacks. Jacey Larson picked up the win in net with 42 saves.

DCB record now sits at 3-6-1-0. DCB is back in action Thursday at Lake Region puck drop is scheduled for 7:30p.m.
