The Lumberjacks Men's Hockey Team would need three goals from Kayden Cey including one with 22.5 seconds remaining in overtime to get pasted the Williston State College Tetons Wednesday night.
The Tetons opened the scoring with just over six minutes to go in the first period. It would take the Jacks just 14 seconds to score and tie the game at 1-1 as Nick Cofer found the back of the net with Jace Thompson and Cey picking up the assists. WSC tacked on two quick goals to take a 3-1 lead. With just two seconds left in the period, while on the penalty kill Carter Ralston cut the Jacks deficit to just one at 3-2 Dodge Long had the assist.
Just 99 seconds into the second period DCB tied the game at 3-3 when Cey netted his first goal of the evening with Jacob Measel and Thompson assisting. The Tetons would grab the lead back a few minutes later. Just after the second period passed the halfway point Cey found the back of the net for the second time and Cofer added an assist to go with his first period goal. At the end of 40 minutes of play the teams were tied at 4-4. As neither team was able to score in the final period they had to prepare for overtime.
In the overtime period the Jacks had a 5 on 3 powerplay opportunity but were unable to execute. Just after the powerplay opportunity ended Cey scored his third of the night to give the Jacks the win with just 22.5 seconds remaining in the extra period, Thompson notched his third assist of the night, Riley Opperude also was credited with an assist. Rylan Labrie picked up the win in net with 30 saves.
The Jacks record improves to 10-8-2-1. The Jacks have a rematch Sunday at Williston State puck drop set for 7:00p.m
