The Lumberjack Men's Hockey team saw their five-game winning streak snapped this past weekend when they were swept by the University of Minnesota-Crookston Golden Eagles by scores of 7-3 and 5-4 in overtime.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead with three goals in the first four minutes of play. Kayden Cey would get the Jacks on the board 5 minutes into the first period with an unassisted goal. After one period the Jacks trailed 3-1.
Cey would keep the scoring going for the Jacks in the second period with his second goal of the afternoon Nick Cofer and Charlie Heimbecker were credited with the assists. Cey picked up the hattrick and tied the game four minutes later Alex Lorenz and Cofer assisted. From there, however it was all UMC with 2 goals in the second to make the score 5-3 and two more goals in the third to win by a final score of 7-3.
In Sunday's action Logan Mantell got the Jacks on the board 0:26 seconds into the game. Dodge Long and Ethan Unger snagged the assists. DCB would go on to make it 2-0 when Jacob Measel found the back of the net, Cofer and Cey had the assists. The Golden Eagles tied the game 2-2 with back-to-back goals. Unger would give the Jacks the lead back at 3-2 early in the second period. UMC would answer with 2 goals in the period to take a 4-3 lead. That score would stick until the final minute of play in the third period, When Cofer and Unger would connect with Carter Ralston to tie the game at 4-4. The two teams would head to an overtime period. It would take just 38 seconds for the Golden Eagles to find the back of the net and win the game by a score of 5-4.
With the losses DCB now sits at 8-6-1-1. The Jacks head to Colorado for four key West Region matchups this week.
