Smith was hired as head volleyball and softball coach at DCB in 2018. Smith, a resident of Regina, Saskatchewan, coached last year at Vibank High School (SK), wherein 2017 they came within one set of qualifying for a first-ever volleyball provincial tournament. He also coached the Vibank Vandals 15U club team.

Smith also coached softball at the University of Regina, where he guided the Cougars for 11 years from 2006-2016. In that time, he compiled a 111-54-2 record and won 3 medals at the Canadian Collegiate Softball Association National Championships. (Silver in 2010 and 2014 and Bronze in 2016) He has coached baseball and softball for over 30 years in both Saskatchewan and Ontario.

Smith also serves as the Sports Information Director for Dakota College at Bottineau. Smith has experience in sports information, serving as the sports information lead for track and field at the 2005 Canada Games and composing all media-related and website content for the University of Regina softball program during his time as head coach. 

He has a bachelor’s degree in physical education. Smith previously served as a middle and high school teacher in Saskatchewan.
