Lumberjacks Play Well in Loss to Pioneers

Despite what the final 3-0 score might say. The Lumberjack Volleyball team played there most competitive match of the season Tuesday night in a losing effort to Miles Community College.

The Jacks start out strong with a quick 4-1 lead. The Pioneers responded with a 5-0 run to take a 6-4 lead. Play was back and forth before MCC was able to pull out to a five-point lead at 14-9 forcing DCB to use a timeout. Out of the timeout the Jacks came out rejuvenated and were able to tie the game at 18-18 and force the Pioneers into a timeout. Out of the timeout the teams traded points it would be the Pioneers that would squeak out a 25-23 set win.

Set two saw little separation in the early going. It would not be until well after the halfway point that the Pioneers would be able to put some distance on the Lumberjacks at 18-13. A quick 3-0 Lumberjack run would cut the MCC lead to two at 18-16 and the Pioneers would use a timeout. Out of the timeouts the battle for momentum would swing back and forth. The Jacks were able to tie the game at 22-22, however MCC would score three of the final four points to take the set 25-23.

It would be MCC that would get off to the hot start in set three with an 8-2 lead. DCB would answer back with a 4-0 run to get the gap down to two at 8-6. The Lumberjacks would be able to keep it close but were unable to get over the hump and fell in the third set 25-21 allowing Miles to win the match 3-0.

With the loss the Lumberjacks fall to 0-18 overall and 0-10 inside the Mon-Dak. DCB is back in action tonight for their final home match of the season against Dawson Community College. Tonight will also serve as Sophomore Night first serve is set for 7:00p.m.
