Ladyjacks Rally to Win Season Opener

Ladyjacks Rally to Win Season Opener

In their season-opening contest, the DCB Ladyjacks Volleyball team would come from behind in three straight sets Wednesday night to defeat Lake Region State College (LRSC) 3-1.

Set one was a back-and-forth affair with neither team gaining more than a three-point lead for much of the set. However, late in the set, Lake Region State was able to get the upper hand and win 25-21.

The Royals carried that momentum over into set two, holding a five-point lead for much of the early portions. DCB would just not go away though, closing the gap to one or two-points multiple times. Eventually, the Ladyjacks would seize control late, scoring nine of the final ten points of the set to win the set 25-21.

In set three, LRSC would come out hot again, taking an 8-1 lead to start play. The Ladyjacks would slowly begin to chip away at the lead eventually tying the game at 15 all. DCB would use that momentum to control the rest of the set and win 25-22.

The fourth set of the night was a classic. Much like the first set, it was a back-and-forth struggle for control. Late in the set Lake Region State held a 24-21 lead, seemingly poised to force a fifth set. The Ladyjacks had other plans however, scoring four straight points of their own to take a 25-24 lead and the opportunity to win the match. The Royals were not done though, tying the game at 25. The Ladyjacks had multiple opportunities to win the match, but the Royals always had an answer. After a marathon of a match, the score was tied at 29-29. After a LRSC error, a final block by Tenielle Chapman-Goodluck sealed the victory for DCB at a score of 31-29.

Isabella Klee had a huge night in her DCB debut. The freshman from Louisville Kentucky led the team in kills with 15 kills and added 17 digs. Fallon Kramer led DCB in digs with 26.  Dashonta Addison led the team in assists with 12.

With the win DCB Volleyball improves to 1-0 on the season and 1-0 in the Mon-Dak. Lake Region State falls to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the Mon-Dak. The Ladyjacks are back in action next week on the road Tuesday and Wednesday, taking on Dickinson State JV and Bismarck State College. Game times are set for 6:00p.m.CST and 7: 00p.m.CST respectively. Stay tuned to DCB social media channels for live stream links and updates.
