Volleyball Adds Former William Penn and Northwest College Coach to Staff

Head Coach Mike Smith has announced that Valerie Rivera will be joining the team as an assistant coach for the 2020 season.

Rivera played her first two years of college volleyball at Chaffey Community College in California where she was an All-Conference setter both years leading her team to two league titles.  She then transferred to Waldorf University, an NAIA school in Iowa. Despite just playing two seasons at Waldorf she is third all-time in assists and 7th all-time in aces.

Rivera then got into coaching spending two years at William Penn while earning her Masters in Business Leadership.  Last season she was named the Interim Head Coach at Northwest College in Wyoming.  She has accepted a position at DCB as the Academic Support Coordinator.

"I am so excited to add Valerie to the staff.  She was an elite player and already has three years of college coaching experience.  I am so excited to get started with her and learn from her experiences.  She will be a great addition and will help us raise the profile of DCB volleyball," commented Head Coach Mike Smith.

She has also spent time coaching at her alma mater, Silverado HS (Calif.).

Rivera holds a B.A. in History from Waldorf University before moving on to complete her Masters at William Penn.
