Virden, Manitoba's Amy Lewis signs an NJCAA Letter of Intent to play for DCB in the fall of 2020.

Amy Lewis of Virden, Manitoba Canada becomes the first volleyball recruit of the 2020 class for the DCB Ladyjacks.  Lewis signed her Letter of Intent just a few days after the 1st day of signing opened on November 1.

Lewis, an outside hitter, plays for Virden Collegiate Institute and will play club volleyball once the high school season wraps up later this month.  She competed on behalf of Team Manitoba the past three summers, most recently this past summer with the youth team at the Canada Cup in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Lewis will provide the Ladyjacks with depth at outside hitter and a player that can challenge for a starting spot as a freshman.

"I am hoping she is a player that can help us in the front row and back row.  Its very difficult to be able to do both in our conference but I think she has a chance to be a 6 rotation player.  It might not happen in her first year but she is a very determined athlete.   She is a great student and a really nice kid!  She will fit in well with our returning players and there is no doubt I am getting a very hard working player that has played in a very good volleyball system in Manitoba.  She is genuinely excited to be here and we can't wait to get her in green and white," stated head coach Mike Smith.

Lewis had several schools interested in her but chose DCB because "it was the perfect fit for me.  My favorite thing is the size.  It reminds me of my hometown because everyone knows everyone and there's a great sense of a tight knit community."  Lewis attended a few games at the Woodshed this year and was impressed by the home team crowd.  "It's such a hype atmosphere and Bottineau is truly a family.  The volleyball is os fun to watch so i can't imagine how fun it's going to be to play!  I can't wait!"

Lewis' team in Virden will begin qualifications for the Provincial AAA Championships to be held October 29-30 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  Virden Collegiate lost in the Championship final last season and are looking to avenge that loss this season.

Volleyball notes:  Despite leading the MonDak Conference in kills per set and hitting pct. Freshman Outside hitter Shonte Seale was left off the 11 player All-Conference team.   The award is voted on by each of the team's Head Coaches.  "I really don't have an answer for how a player that leads in two major categories is not found to be in the top 11 players in the conference.  Im  angry about it and it's not right.  When I saw the list in my email earlier in the week I was literally shocked.  She took it a lot better then I did.  Its a shame a player that had the year she had was not rewarded for her efforts with this recognition.  I don't know what to say," stated Smith.
