Volleyball Wins A Pair On Weekend

The DCB Ladyjacks improved to 5-7 on the season after a pair of wins in Ellendale,ND vs Calvary University of Missouri and the Host Trinity Bible College.  

In the first match it was all Ladyjacks as they won 25-13, 25-21, 25-13.  DCB had 31 kills lead by freshman Shonte Seale's 8.  Seale was coming off an injury which saw her miss the Ladyjacks previous 5 games.  9 different players had kills in the contest.  Seale was the leading server with 4 aces While sophomores Karrien Marteniuk and Michelle Krahn each had 2.  Freshman setters Sam Harris (14 assists in 2 sets) and Carli Lies (7 assists in 1 set) where the leading passers.  

Defensively DCB was lead by Libero Marteniuk who had 19 digs while sophomores Tiandre Stuart and Lexi Gullett had 2 blocks each. 

The 2nd match started off with a 25-23 1st set thrilling win.  After a scare form Trinity the Ladyjacks went on to sweep the match with 25-10 and 25-21 victories.  

Seale and Krahn were the top hitters picking up 11 and 10 kills respectively.  Stuart added 6 kills with the team continuing to hit the ball well.  The Ladyjacks picked up 36 total kills and hit for a season high .429 percentage. 

Harris picked up a huge 36 assists and a team leading 4 aces.  The top blocker was again Stuart with 3 more stuffs. Sophomore Sarah Marshall lead the team in digs with 10 followed by Marteniuk (8) and sophomore Taryn Robert's 7. 

The team will host a pair of huge MonDak conference games this week. Tuesday they take on Miles Community College while Wednesday they host Dawson Community College.  Game times for both are 7:00pm. The games as always will be shown live at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQKBvgaN2m1UjNxHHAOy7Xw

Fun facts:  The Ladyjacks rank 40th in the country out of 133 NJCAA Division II schools so far this year in hitting percentage.  A stat that they finished in the bottom third of last season.  They are 47th in Service aces per set, another area that is vastly improved over the 2018 season.

The volleyball team will be holding their giant 50/50 draw on Wednesday after the second set.  The prize pool is around 700.00 so far so get your tickets now!  They can be purchased from any member of the team or at the Foundation office or can be delivered by emailing Head Coach Mike Smith at michael.smith.12@dakotacollege.edu  You do NOT need to be present to win.  Tickets are $5.00 each.
