Ladyjacks battle Mondak's top team

The DCB Ladyjacks played well but came up short against the Mondak conference leading NDSCS Wildcats losing in straight sets 25-16, 25-10, 25-17.  The undefeated Wildcats were forced to play most of their starters throughout the match as the pesky Ladyjacks would not give-up.  The 1st set was closer then the score as the Wildcats went on two big runs to pull away.  With the set at 13-9 the Wildcats scored six consecutive points to jump ahead 19-9.  The Ladyjacks scored six of the next 8 points to get closer but eventually fell 25-16 to one of the countries top defensive teams.

In the second set the Ladyjacks made a few more errors and lost several points on tough serving by the Wildcats.  The Wildcats consistently dug every attack the Ladykacks mounted and were too much for the young DCB squad downing them 25-10.

The third set was one of the best the Ladyjacks have played this year especially considering their opponent.  "I am never happy about losing but I thought we played very well tonight.  We are playing one of the best Division II teams in the country and we hung in with them for two of the three sets.  We hit the ball well tonight  We knew coming in that they would hit the ball well and we needed to try and match them.  Their defense is so tough.  We are getting better and this game showed the home fans that we can compete with very good teams", stated Head Coach Mike Smith.

Offensively the Ladyjacks hit more hard attacks then perhaps any other game this year.  The tough Wildcats defense limited DCB to 16 kills with freshman Michelle Krahn the top hitter picking up 7.   The Ladyjacks again used all three setters for the third straight match with freshman Ashlynn Starry leading the trio with 8 assists.  Freshman Jayda Kinistino picked up two aces giving her 14, tops on the team.

Freshman Libero Sarah Marshall had 11 digs and Starry added 9.  Freshman Middle Amy Stolz had 2 blocks giving her 48 for the season, tops on the team.

The Ladyjacks will play a must-win game tomorrow night (Thursday October 11) against the visiting Miles Community College Pioneers.  The Pioneers lost Wednesday 3-0 in Devils Lake vs lake Region State College. Game time is 7:00pm.
