Jacks Hold Off Late Pioneer Rally

The Lumberjack women's basketball team would survive a late rally by the Miles Community College Pioneers Wednesday night hanging on to win 87-80.

The Jacks were able to build a lead in the first quarter, leading 22-15 after the first 10 minutes. The second quarter was very competitive as the Jacks outscored the Pioneers by two in the quarter to take a 40-31 lead into the half. The Jacks had another strong quarter out of halftime, being able to stretch their lead to sixteen at 62-46 with 10 minutes to play. DCB would score first in the final quarter to get their lead to 18.  This is when the Pioneers would make their run knocking down numerous three pointers to get the Lumberjacks' lead down to just four at 77-73 with just over two minutes remaining. However, DCB would do just enough in the final two minutes to hold for an 87-80 victory.

Hanna Plumbtree led all scorers and 4 Lumberjacks in double figures with 25 points off the bench. Amari Butler scored 20 points and snagged 11 steals for a double-double. Butler's 11 steals put her over 100 on the season breaking the school's unofficial single season record of 97 set by Chelsea Fraizer who played in 2014-15. Rozalind Strong added 19 points, and BrandeeRhae Mays finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Lainy Smith led the Pioneers with 20 points.

With the win DCB moves to 10-10 overall and 4-7 in the Mon-Dak. Next up for the Lumberjacks they travel to Dawson tomorrow night game time set for 6:30(CST).
