Second Half Struggles Cost Jacks

The Lumberjack women's basketball team would hold a one point lead at halftime but would run into shooting struggles and foul trouble in the second half against the Bismarck State College Mystics. Those issues would lead to the Mystics coming away with an 85-75 win.

Both teams struggled to get things going offensively and struggled with turnovers. It would be the Lumberjacks that would get things figured out first and break out to a six-point lead at 14-8. The Mystics would respond and cut the lead to two at 14-12 at the end of the first quarter the Jacks held a 18-14 lead. In the second quarter both teams picked up the shooting, but both continued to struggle with turnovers with each having 16 in the first half. In the closing stages of the first half the Lumberjacks and Mystics would trade the lead and made three pointers. It would be the Jacks that would take a narrow 37-36 lead into the half. Rozalind Strong led the Jacks first half attack with 16 points.

BSC would come out firing in the third quarter and take a six-point lead. Hanna Plumbtree would keep the Jacks in it with 11 points in the quarter. After three quarters the Mystics led 63-58.  The Jacks would try to battle back in the fourth quarter but would run into foul trouble as BrandeeRhae Mays and Amari Butler would each foul out early in the final quarter. Three straight Karrington Eugene free throws would get the Jacks to within three points at 76-73 with two minutes remaining. However, that would be as close as DCB would get falling by a final score of 85-75.

Strong led the Lumberjacks with 24 points. She was joined in double-figures by Plumbtree who added 20 points and pulled down 16 rebounds for a double-double Kiara Comeaux chipped in 12 points. Brynnlee Murdock led the Mystics and all scorers with 30 points.

With the loss DCB falls to 9-9 on the year and 3-6 inside the Mon-Dak. Next up for the Jacks they will host the Royals of Lake Region State College Wednesday night with tip off scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
