Jacks Fall in Tight Game to Wildcats

The Lumberjack women's basketball team found themselves in a tightly contested game Sunday afternoon. A strong fourth quarter from the NDSCS Wildcats would spell trouble for DCB as the Wildcats rallied to win 80-68.

The first quarter saw momentum swing back and forth between the Lumberjacks and the Wildcats. It would be the Wildcats that would have the momentum last leading at the end of the quarter 21-16. Amari Butler with 10 and Kiara Comeaux with 6 combined for all 16 points in the quarter. A strong showing on the defensive end saw the Lumberjacks rally to take a 29-28 lead with 2:30 to play in the first half. The Jacks held NDSCS to just 9 points in the quarter and forced 13 first half turnovers to take a 33-30 halftime lead. As a team the Jacks shot 12-16 from the free throw line in the half.

A quick start to the second half saw the Jacks take a 39-32 lead and force a NDSCS timeout. Out of the timeout the Wildcats got the Jacks lead down to two at 39-37. DCB would respond with a 6-0 run to get the lead up to eight at 45-37. Turnovers would be an issue for the Jacks late in the quarter as the Wildcats would make a late run. A three pointer in the final 15 seconds would give NDSCS the lead as the teams headed to the fourth quarter at 50-49. The Wildcats were able to get the momentum on their side at the halfway point of the fourth quarter the Jacks found themselves trailing by the most they had all day at 10 65-55. A late run by the Jacks would not be enough as the Wildcats would win 80-68.

Butler led the Jacks and all scorers with 28 points. She was joined in double-figures by Comeaux with 15 points. Savannah Jones led the Wildcats with 24 points.

The Jacks fall to 5-4 overall and 1-3 in the Mon-Dak. DCB travels to United Tribes for a women's only conference game Wednesday. Game time is set for 5:30p.m.
